Artist & Engineer

amu (Amirreza Amouie / アムイ アミルレザ / امیررضا عمویی) is a Tokyo-based artist and engineer whose work explores the intersections of technology, performance, sound, and human experience.

Since 2016, through music, custom-built instruments, installations, software, and live events, amu has created systems that transform abstract emotions into shared experiences. The work explores memory, identity, connection, and the evolving relationship between people and technology, seeking ways to make care, wonder, and human connection more tangible and shareable.

A central part of amu’s practice is an ongoing research into interaction: how people encounter, respond to, and influence artworks through mediums. This research considers the mechanics of participation, from the physical interfaces of instruments and installations to the ways sound, software, space, and bodies can form responsive relationships. Rather than treating technology as a medium alone, amu explores it as a way to construct situations in which an artwork becomes something that is experienced, affected, and co-created through interaction.

Alongside independent artistic practice, amu develops performances and community events that bring together artists, engineers, musicians, and curious minds to explore new forms of collaboration, expression, and collective discovery.
